  What do you believe are the qualities the community desires in an elected official?

  0 0 I feel public service is a key quality as it will demonstrate your commitment level to the public. Consistency is another very strong indicator of a candidate’s personal commitment to serving others. Humility is the final key attribute for a candidate, I feel the candidate should know he or she serves and therefore should show constant appreciation.   What do you believe qualifies you to run for public office?

  0 0 I feel I am qualified to run because I have and continue to serve the public. I have been committed to block by block organizing since 1998. I serve others every single day. I know families, individuals, and agencies that have benefited from the work that I provide to assist them.   What do you believe is the reason behind the increase in youth violence and how do you plan to address it?

  0 0 I feel hopelessness is behind the youth violence. When you have the highest unemployment rate being Black teens, you can easily put two and two together and see an idle mind coupled with very limited resources will equate to increased violence and other mayhem. To address it, I have created 20 career clubs, such as a painter’s club, lawyer’s club, nurse’s club, etc that we are going block by block and putting youth into one of the 20 career clubs so that they are under an umbrella of support and financial resources.   What are your plans to increase job and employment opportunities in the city of Chicago?

  0 0 Once again, I feel the career clubs are critical because in my ward you have too many untrained individuals that must be trained in order to join the work force. Through the career clubs they can begin entry level and work their way into entrepreneurship. A two year ex offender that is in our painter’s club for one year could possible begin his own painting company after a year of learning and gaining clients.   What will you do to improve the Chicago Public School system, from kindergarten through high school?

  0 0 Currently we have a process of allowing one grade higher to be assigned to a grade below mentoring process. I feel this is going to be very successful and allow us to reduce bullying and improve education immensely through direct engagement and support. I would address special needs students in the exact same manner but with a little more time spent to ensure a comfort level is established.   What are your thoughts about the costs of housing in Chicago, both for ownership and rental? Are there particular actions that you will take?

  0 0 The cost of housing is unacceptable for rentals while I feel housing prices are much cheaper now. I cannot understand how we could be foreclosing on folks properties during one of the country’s worst economic times, I feel we should be issuing 50% reductions in mortgage payments for up to 36 months to help us get through this crisis.   What are your feelings about public housing and assisted living in the city of Chicago? Are there particular actions that you will take on the issue?

  0 0 I am from two public housing projects, so I feel they have their challenges like regular housing but we should ensure prior to migrating them into the private sector housing we should have a series of programs aimed at better preparing them for the new environment. Assisted living is different and I would need to study this more to give an informed opinion.   How do you perceive the issues of drugs and crime and what will you do to address them?

  0 0 Drugs are a problem and I would fight to legalize where we can, and limit access of drugs coming to America more. Crime is made up of three elements; intent, capability, and opportunity. I work now to organize residents so they know each other and this helps to limit the opportunity of crime. We must work to create an atmosphere where criminals do not feel comfortable operating, this will greatly reduce crime.   How do you plan to deal with the city budget and the current city deficit?

  0 0 The city budget must be audited for corruption and mismanagement. I plan to conduct a line item by line item audit to root out waste and mismanagement. I think we can reduce the city council to 25, just like the 25 police districts in Chicago and also cut paying for city employees on trial or that have been convicted of crime but awaiting sentencing. There are many other areas but you need to be on the inside to fully gain that level of insight.   How do you feel about the claim that Chicago politics and city government is rife with corruption?

  0 0 I know it is true and more than that it is rife with lack of leadership that is willing to say no to the mayor and truly fight the special interest. I have always been an activist type of leader. I organize folks to take back what should be theirs.
